Twice a year at the Holy Monastery of Vatopaidi, Mount Athos, a miracle happens: the baker puts a small bowl with dough (a mixture of water and flour only) under the Precious and Life- giving Cross during the feasts of the Holy Cross, 14th of September and the 3rd Sunday of Lent, and during the vigil and the liturgy the dough rises quickly with the miraculous power of the Holy Cross, without the addition of yeast.
The Holy Cross is taken out from the Holy Altar at the end of the Vigil.
