Envy is the passion of a malicious soul that goes into meltdown with jealousy when it sees its neighbor doing well. It’s an impassioned critic of anything good that anyone else enjoys. It’s the root of all evil, the source of every disaster and the breeding-ground of sacrilege. Of all the passions, it’s least fair and the most fair. In the first place, it particularly troubles good people, but in the second it does most damage to those who suffer from it.
