The Prophet Elijah (Ilias) is a beloved saint because of his great love for God, leading him to renounce everything for his Lord. This self-emptying allowed Grace to work through him, aloowing him to work great wonders and and to do things that no one has done either before or after him.
From Elijah we learn the power of faith and prayer. Elijah was a man with a human nature just like ours; he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain in the land for three years and six months. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Of course though we may be nowhere near his spiritual level, still we may experience the efficacy of prayer in our lives. For this to occur, we must make a beginning. We must start to pray with pure heart, sincerity and love as Elijah did.
