You only have power over people so long as you don’t take everything away from them. But when you’ve robbed a man of everything he’s no longer in your power — he’s free again.
So, In truth there is only one freedom – the holy freedom in Christ, whereby He freed us from sin, from evil, from the devil. It binds us to God. All other freedoms are illusory, false, that is to say, they are all, in fact, slavery.
So, to yield and give way to our passions is the lowest slavery, even as to rule over them is the only liberty.
Let us not replace an addiction with another one. Let us have the freedom in Christ, the only perfectly free man.
