The mind, the eye of the soul, is enlightened only by God’s grace.
Although the things of this creation can cast a light upon the mind, this light is rather a reflection of the primordial light of the original meaning which God gave to each thing separately and to His creation generally.
So, if we fall into the delusion of forgetting God when we encounter the material things of this world, then the light of Creation, which should guide us to personal perfection (which is found in God alone), will instead become for us the darkness of separation from Him.
