If you really want to help someone, don’t just think about their problem but pray for them. Instead of talking to them about their problem, it’s much better to talk to God about them.
In the Divine Liturgy, through God’s Grace and through our prayers, we are as one: the living and the departed souls. This unity is a real ‘oneness’ even if it isn’t immediately apparent to the eyes of our body.

This photo shows a priest-monk at Vatopaidi commemorating names and taking out pieces of bread for the living and the dead at the preparation. The preparation is celebrated quietly before the public part of the Divine Liturgy begins and symbolizes the ‘hidden years’ of Christ’s life on earth.
