We are perfectly different and perfectly equal

Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free. However God loves us equally and perfectly. And we should do the same: let us respect and love that we are different.

The two very important words here are ‘respect’ and ‘love’. The concept of the un-conditional love of God is difficult for us to understand and even more difficult for us to put into practice, because we are so imperfect. But I think our feeble minds can understand the concept of ‘respect’ much more easily. Then, if we try (with God`s help and the prayers of the Saints) to respect equally everyone that we meet, this respect can lead to loving them. So, (because man is made in the image of God) our love for those we meet will increase our love of God. This is a subject which needs much more thought and discussion…
Ioan Toma
Of course. A very important thing to note here is that „love” implies sacrifice – „respect”, not so much. That’s why we receive the commandment to love, not to respect. Without sacrifice there is no resurrection.

To love is certainly a challenge! I was just reading Galatians 5 again. Love, the first in the list of the `fruits of the Spirit`. Do you think that in order to love correctly, we need to create a form of kenosis? We need to ’empty’ ourselves so that we have space for others?
Ioan Toma
Of course! Love IS kenosis. The difference between „I like you” and „I love you” is exactly this: kenosis. I sacrifice myself (that is my will) for you. Then I become one with you.
