No man can serve two masters

Love of God extinguishes our love for our parents. And so he who says that he has both deceives himself. He should listen to Him who says: No man can serve two masters. I have not come, says the Lord, to bring peace on earth (that is, love of parents among sons and brothers who have resolved to serve Me) but war and a sword in order to separate lovers of God from lovers of the world, the material from the spiritual, the proud from the humble. For strife and separation delight the Lord when they spring from love for Him.

Thank you for this `Spiritual Gift`. (And a superb photograph). I can relate to your thinking in a very personal way. It is very difficult for parents, brothers and sisters to understand when one of the family expresses an idea to love and serve the Lord in a special way. But this has happened in the lives of so many of the Saints and most especially in the life of the Mother of God. I sometimes think of how the friends of Mary reacted to her YES to God.
Ioan Toma
Yes, sure. Theotokos did not have friends, only relatives. Because she was in the temple from a very early age, she did not have friends. On the other hand, tough, her relatives including St. Joseph, had a negative stance. See, St. Joseph wanted to leave her because she was „unclean” and it was needed a vision from an angel in order to be accepted by St. Joseph.
