“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female, He created them.” (Genesis 1:27). At the first glance, it seems that it should read “men” or “humans” because there are two. However, the text here is very clear and concise: in the same way in which there is one God in three persons, God created, in the same way there, one “man” (άνθρωπος) in a multitude of persons of two kinds: male and female.
The fall of Adam broke this initial unity: through disobedience, the persons who formed “man” were cut one from another, from God and from the entire creation as we see in nature.
How to get back?
Even if nothing in the entire creation can be compared with the Holy Trinity, the Son of God asks His Father, “So that they may be one as We are one” and again, “I in them and You in Me–that they may be perfectly united.”
Hence, we can be united only by reaching deification through obedience and humility. A correct, natural will in accordance with God’s will, without the parasite called “our” will, shall bring us back to where we belong: to be one “man” (mankind).
