There are some less known things about the nativity of the Mother of God: firstly, she was born when Saint Ioakeim and Anna were very old so that they would not feel any carnal pleasure. Secondly, because Saint Ioakeim and Anna were bearing the stigma of being childless, they were far from the passion of vainglory. Thirdly, because the Mother of God was the fruit of a long ascetical struggle and prayer of her parents, she was sanctified from the womb of her mother.
In this way, God prepared her from the very beginning to become His mother.
In these photos you can see candid shots from the Feast of Nativity of Mother of God at Vatopaidi Monastery, Mount Athos. The Metropolitan which was preset was Pavlos of Drama.
